The George Eastman House at 900 East Avenue has a new exhibition on view thru October 21. Ideas in Things offers a gallery of photographs that demonstrate their persistence as cultural artifacts and as a vehicle for memory and meaning. Included are works by Julia Margaret Cameron, Frederick H. Evans, Lucas Samaras, Larissa T. Sligh and Edward Steichen. The show looks at photographs as object; and features works from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries..
The gardens this summer will host an edition of five bronze memorial sculptures by artist Todd McGrain. His Lost Bird Project focuses on five North American Birds driven to extinction in modern times – the Carolina Parakeet, the Heath Hen, the Great Auk, the Labrador Duck and the Passenger Pigeon.
