“Ozma of Oz” @ Bristol Valley Theatre, August 14-17

•This year’s FREE MOVIES IN THE PARKS series, sponsored by the Monroe County Dept. of Parks, conclude on August 9 in Highland Park Bowl with a free screening of Kung Fu Panda 2 (PG) at dusk.  Call (585) 753-PARK.

•Penfield’s Young Open and Honest Players (YOHP) will perform the original play, CARNIVAL OF DREAMS, on August 10 & 11 at Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road.  The show is written and directed by 16-year-old Emma Milligan as part of the group’s Playwrights Project.  Call (585) 340-8655.

•The LITERATURE LIVE series, which finds characters jumping off the pages of children’s books to meet, greet and pose with youngsters, continues on August 10, 11 & 12 at the Strong National Museum of Play, One Manhattan Square, as the city-dwelling croc, Lyle Lyle Crocodile, appears. •The students who participated in the Geva Theatre Summer Academy will present a FREE SHOWCASE open to the public on August 11 at 75 Woodbury Blvd.  The showcase will feature scenes and music from both Shakespearean and contemporary dramas and comedies.  Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance.  Call (585) 232-GEVA or visit www.gevatheatre.org.

•Bristol Valley Theatre presents its “BVT For Kids” performance of OZMA OF OZ on August 14 thru 17 at 151 S. Main Street in Naples NY.  Join Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, and some fantastical new friends (including a talking chicken and Tik-Tok, the mechanical man) as they journey back to Oz to battle the devious Gnome King and return Queen Ozma to her rightful throne.  Call (585) 374-9032.

•On August 15, the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium at 657 East Avenue will provide a chance to embark on a virtual voyage to Mars in the CHALLENGER CENTER.  The high-tech hands-on simulation is educational and fun.  Children must be at least 7 to participate; and those 7 to 10 need to be teamed one-on-one with an adult.  Call  (585) 697-1942.

•The CINEMA IN THE SQUARE series of family film screenings in Jackson Square, Batavia, concludes with the showing of Gulliver’s Travels on August 15.   Bring a comfortable chair or blanket and enjoy a movie under the stars.  Call (585) 344-0900.

•Seneca Park Zoo, at 2222 St. Paul Street, will present its final NIGHT AT THE ZOO event of the summer – complete with family-friendly entertainment, animal encounters, animal-related games and more – on August 16.  Call (585) 336-7213.

•Have fun exploring your creative side and learn about the latest 3-D imaging technologies on August 18 at the Rochester Museum & Science Center, 657 East Avenue.  The 3-D TECHNOLOGY EXPO offers a chance to make art with 3-D chalk, to use a 3-D printer, view stereoscopic images, and more.  Call  (585) 697-1942.
