The First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival is providing our region with five days of performances by local, regional, national and international talent. Over 180 appearances are planned in over twenty venues throughout the downtown area. Among the acts coming to town are Bandaloop (on 9/20), a world-renowned San Francisco aerial dance company, who has brought aerial dance to a half a million people at major city landmarks and outdoor sites such as Yosemite Falls CA. The troupe will dance on the side of the 21-story One HSBC Plaza – free of charge for all who want to see…The Harlem Gospel Choir w/The Campbell Brothers (on 9/21) will perform at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. The Choir has been traveling and performing for twenty-five years and has performed with everyone from Diana Ross to Sinead O’Connor to Madonna; and entertained Pope Benedict XVI, President Obama, Nelson Mandela and Sir Elton John. Rochester’s own sacred steel superstars, The Campbell Brothers will open…Comedian Patton Oswalt (on 9/22) has headlined at Toronto’s “Just For Laughs” festival; appeared on his own television specials; and has put out four CDs, two of which were nominated for Grammys. He’s also appeared in over twenty films and won a Critics’ Choice Award…Special touring theatrical events are also scheduled. Among them are The Bicycle Men – a sell-out hit in London and at Edinburgh Fringe; A Night of Laughs featuring eight comedians from New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia; and The Event – an Edinburgh “Fringe First” award winner.
