Rochester SummerFest brings a number of artists to town for a long weekend of music and more. The lineup includes:
•July 12 – “Day Party” @ Max at High Falls; Jon B entertains. The Grammy nominated singer/songwriter released his first album, Bonafide, in 1995 (certified Gold); and followed it up with Cool Relax (certified Platinum); Pleasures U Like (certified Gold) and five more. His latest is Comfortable Swagg.
•July 13 @ the Auditorium Theatre; The Manhattans featuring Gerald Aston & Blue Lovett headline. Hit songs like “I Wanna Be (Your Everything),” “Kiss and Say Goodbye,” “One Life To Live,” and the Grammy-winning “Shining Star,” feature the group’s distinctive vocal stylings which have earned then a spot in the R&B Hall of Fame…Joining the bill is Ray, Goodman & Brown – the classic vocal trio that defined sweet harmony soul during the 70’s and 80’s. Noted songs include “Special Lady,” “Take It To The Limit,” “Slipped Away,” “A Part Of You,” “Another Day,” “Pool of Love” and “Next Time I’ll Know.”
•July 14 @ Blue Cross Arena; Robin Thicke headlines. The singer/songwriter has written songs for Usher, Mary J. Blige, and Jennifer Hudson; and fans of the ABC show, Duets, will recognize him as a judge on the show. Hits include “Lost Without You,” “Sex Therapy,” “Love After War” and “All Tied Up.”…Also on this bill is Monica, the Grammy Award winning singer/actor known for such songs as “Don’t Take It Personal,” “Before You Walk Out of My Life,” “For You I Will,” “This Boy Is Mine,” and “Without You.”…Canadian R&B singer Melanie Fiona also performs. This year she won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Fool For You.” Her latest album is My MF Life…Bobby V will be on hand as well, known for the hits “Slow Down,” “Give Me a Chance,” “Your Smile,” Sexy Girl,” “Rock Wit’cha,” and his latest, “Mirror.”…Elle Varner completes the show. The multi-talented artist not only sings, but also plays piano, flute, drums and bass. Her debut album is titled Perfectly Imperfect.
•July 15 – “All White Affair” @ One Restaurant and Lounge; hosted by Shawty Lo (known for his pioneering sound – snap music – a two time BET Hip Hop Award Winner – his latest is Still Got Units); Bobby V (see above); and Cam’ron (a Grammy-nominated rapper and founder of The Diplomats – known for such albums as Killa Season and Crime Pays).
