Benefits

•The 1st annual Blues Ball Fundraiser featuring Chris Beard and the Chris Beard Band will be held at the Harro East Ballroom, 155 N. Chestnut Street, on May 11; with proceeds going to Recovery Houses of Rochester.  (585-202-3431)

•On May 6, a Benefit Concert for the Irish Children’s Program of Rochester is planned at the Main Stage of the Campus Center at St. John Fisher College, 3590 East Avenue.  The organization will bring Catholic and Protestant children from Belfast to the Rochester area this summer.  The Dady Brothers, Everheart, Wingin’ It, The Dustmen and Bob’s Brothers Band will play; and dancers from Drumcliffe Irish Arts, the Young School of Irish Dance, Boland School of Irish Dace, Francis School of Irish Dance and the Shannonside Ceili Dancers will also perform.  (585-683-1385)

•A concert benefiting the National Center for Missing Children will be presented on May 9 at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N. Water St. featuring Jim Drew & Humble Soul.  Music begins at 6:30 p.m.  (585-325-5600)

Jazz Exchange and Cabo Frio will offer a concert to benefit Foodlink, Lifespan and Southwest Area Neighborhood Association on May 5 at the German House, 315 Gregory Street – complete with gourmet hors d’oeuvres.  (585-209-3191)

Nik and the Nice Guys will perform a concert at Water Street Music Hall on May 12, benefiting Friends of SOTA.  The event starts at 7 p.m.  (585-325-5600)

 

News

•A CD Release Party is planned for May 11th by the Gordon Webster Band, featuring vocalist Naolmi Uyama.  This Live in Rochester CD was recorded during two jam-packed dances at the Steven & Virginie Weekend.  The Release party will be held at the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Avenue.  (www.groovejuiceswing.com)

•The new band, My Plastic Sun, will present its Debut Show on May 4 at Sticky Lips, 830 Jefferson Rd.  The young group, featuring frontman Johnny Cummings, has been making a lot of internet buzz already.  This is your chance to see what the fuss is all about!  (585-292-5544)

•Another new band, Pink Elephant, formed by former members of The Indras and Clockman, will be playing their new stuff – loud and aggressive – at the Bug Jar on May 8.  (585-831-9630)
